 A woman who attacked a dogwalker with rocks in a gruesome assault has been jailed for seven and a half years   in the savage beating.  A woman who witnessed the grisly scene said it was “like a horror movie”   Pools of blood and blood-spattered rocks were seen on the steps down to the beach after the assault Teesside Live reports   A 36-year-old woman was left pouring with blood after the  “traumatic” attack  at around 8 30pm on Saturday July 20.  She was hit with stones from the beach and suffered severe injuries to her face     Police were called, an ambulance took the woman to  James Cook University Hospital  and she was later discharged  Palmer, 41,  formerly of France Street, Redcar, appeared at Teesside Crown Court for sentencing  Prosecutor Harry Hadfield told the court the victim was walking a dog on Redcar seafront with a friend, when the pair decided to go home  He said: “As they approached, the victim saw the defendant and thought straight away that there might be trouble  “The defendant ran towards her and launched an unprovoked attack.    Palmer then “started to punch” the victim, who said she “didn’t want to fight”  The victim slipped and fell during the exchange with Palmer “straddling” her.  Palmer “continued her attack by striking the victim with stones and rocks that were collected at the foot of the steps ”  Mr Hadfield said that the victim recalls being struck “10 times” and “felt blood running down her face ”  The victim had “no idea why she was doing this”.  Palmer then picked up a rock “the size of her hand” and continued to hit the victim on the “face and head” while she was laid on her back  The victim’s friend pleaded with Palmer to stop, telling her “you’re going to kill her”  Witnesses described the victim’s head a “bouncing off the steps” every time she was hit, leaving her drenched in blood and “not moving”    The victim’s friend thought she may have been dead, and urged her to run once revived  Another witness who was on the beach said she though Palmer was a man, as she was carrying out the assault with such “anger and force ”  The victim staggers away but Palmer continues to follow her, before police turn up and arrest her  Mr Hadfield added that when arrested, Palmer’s arms were “stained with blood”.  The victim had injuries to her head and skull Part of her left ear had also been “torn off”, requiring it to be stitched up.  Her hair was “matted with blood” and “thought the defendant was going to kill her that night”  Mr Hadfield added that a later MRI scan showed that the victim now suffers from a “serious and life threatening condition” as a result of the injuries  He says that Palmer alleged in police interview that she was assaulted first by the victim, something the Crown “do not accept at all ” Read More Top news stories from Mirror Online  John Nixon, mitigating, says Palmer pleaded guilty early and that there was a “history” between the two  Mr Nixon says at the time of the incident she was ‘drinking to excess” and may suffer from a “severe personality disorder”  He says that “how the incident started is irrelevant”. He adds that he hopes the victim can recover from her injuries  Sentencing Palmer, Judge Tahir Khan QC called it a “brutal and sustained assault on a victim who did nothing to provoke violence”  “You must have realised early on in the assault that she was badly hurt and bleeding profusely, yet you carried on using these rocks to pummel her around her head  “That was merciless.”
