STEM Day – Wayne State University

Welcome to another fun and educational
time at Wayne State University’s STEM Day! We’ve got a lot in store for your
students. This overview will get your classes ready to have the best
experience the moment you roll on to our campus. Before you arrive let’s go over
just a few things you’ll want to be ready for on that day to make the
experience for your students the best it could be. Assigning students and
chaperones to sessions. You should have received an email notifying you of what
sessions you’ve been assigned. You’ll want to break up any larger groups you
have to fill these sessions accordingly. Make sure that if you’re assigned to 30
spaces in a session, that you’re only sending 30 students to that session. Be
sure your students and chaperones know where their session is located. Locations
and maps are available on our website stem.day.wayne.edu. Remind your students to dress for the weather. March in Michigan could bring us snow, rain or sun.
Check the forecast the week of the event to encourage jackets, boots, hats or
umbrellas if needed. No matter what the forecast is be sure to wear your walking
shoes. Sessions are spread throughout our 200 acre campus so students, teachers and chaperones need to think comfort first. Here’s what you need to get ready for
arrival. Most students will be dropped off in front of the Wayne State Welcome
Center for check-in. Select groups will be going to the Mike Ilitch School of
Business. Be sure to closely check your email to
confirm you’re headed to the right location. After drop-off all buses are
invited to park free along our Matthaei service drive. We suggest that you print
off a campus map at maps.wayne.edu/view so your drivers know exactly
where they’re headed. Encourage your students to exit buses quickly upon
arrival. Wanna be really efficient? We recommend grouping your students by
their sessions before boarding buses. This will speed up the check-in and get
your students to their sessions faster. Please note that teachers and chaperones will be checking in at different tables from your students once you arrive, so
you will be briefly separated from students during this process. All
teachers and chaperones will receive a check-in packet with info of the day’s
events information on the sessions students are attending and where
sessions are located should be provided to each chaperone in advance. Along with
clear information about the event they’re attending, students will receive a
drawstring backpack before leaving Wayne State’s Welcome Center. Once your
students arrive at their session be sure everyone stays with your assigned group
the entire time. Because students are interacting with real university
professors and instructors, encourage them to participate and ask questions.
Consider snapping some pictures to share with other parents who can’t be here or
share them socially using the hashtag #WSUSTEM. We’re happy to provide a free lunch to each participating STEM day student, teacher and chaperone. All we ask is for everyone’s help cleaning up. If you’re eating in one of our dining halls,
return plates cups and silverware to the conveyors. If you’re enjoying a box lunch
be sure your students find a trash can to get rid of their waste. Thanks for participating in Wayne State University’s STEM day, one of the biggest
and most successful STEM day events in the nation. We look forward to your
arrival to campus. If you haven’t been here in a while or if you’ve never been
here, you’ll be amazed at how beautiful, exciting and fun a university
headquartered in Detroit for more than 150 years can be. And you’ll discover why
our students don’t just graduate – they graduate Warrior Strong.
