Dual Enrollment for Autistic Students

In my state of Massachusetts we have
what’s called dual enrollment at Community College. If your high
school or your program is willing to agree to it your student can attend his
regular classes Monday through Friday and they can take one college class at the community college level and it counts to both their high school
credits and college. They get used to the work they get used to what the demands
are going to be and they can see that it’s manageable. They take it one step at
a time. When your student starts college they already have 15 or so credits under
their belt and they’ve got a nice comfortable relationship with their
school. And a lot of students I know that are on the autistic spectrum have done
exceedingly well in that compared to kids that just go right from high school
into college. It’s a great bridge.
