Dr Sara McDevitt talks about the HSE Model of Care for Eating Disorder Services

-: The model of care was launched in January 2018. Some of the recommendations that are in that Model of Care is that we should be thinking of eating disorder services in a lifelong way. The key eating disorders that are addressed are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder. And also ARFID. And what the model of care recommends is that there would be Eight eating disorder hubs around the country that would provide community based out patient and Day Programmes for people with eating disorders. And our hope is that through that, through working in partnership with local mental health services with in-patient units, that we can really provide people with a very high quality of care so that they can recover. A focus of, of, on early intervention. But also a focus through the lifespan so that we can support people at whatever level and stage of the illness they’re at.
