Beechwood senior, who inspired many, loses battle with rare brain tumor

CLEAR TONIGHT
>>SHE WAS THE NICEST PERSON
I’VE EVER MET. HELENA: IT’S HARD FOR FRIENDS
AND FAMILY TO GRASP THAT SUCH A
VIBRANT, KIND AND BRAVE SOUL, IS
NO LONGER HERE.>>SHE DID NOT LET NEGATIVITY
OVERRUN AND JUST FALL INTO HER
HOLE AND GO AWAY SO SHE WAS
WILLING TO FIGHT UNTIL THE END
AND TAKE EVERY MOMENT AS IT
COME HELENA: 17-YEAR-OLD ASHLEY
SHAEFER LOST HER BATTLE WITH A
RARE BRAIN TUMOR EARLIER THIS
WEEK. WE SPOKE TO THE TEEN AND HER
FAMILY JUST MONTHS AGO. SHE WAS ABLE TO GRADUATE FROM
BEECHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, KEEP UP
WITH SOFTBALL AND CHEER, AND
WANTED TO CONTINUE LIVING LIFE
TO THE FULLEST. YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW SHE WAS

>>YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW SHE WAS
SICK BECAUSE SHE HAD JUST LIKE A
MOTIVATING PERSONALITY. HELENA: TONIGHT THOSE CLOSEST TO
SHAEFER GATHERED TO CELEBRATE
AND REMEMBER. HER BEST FRIEND OLIVIA WAS IN
THE ROOM DURING SCHAEFER’S FINAL
MOMENTS ON MONDAY.>>I HELD HER HAND AND TOLD HER
THAT I LOVE HER AND THAT IT’S OK
TO LET GO, AND AT THAT MOMENT I
GUESS 5 MINUTES LATER SHE PASS
AWAY, SO I KNOW THAT SHE WAITED
FOR ME. HELENA: WHEN THE FAMILY FIRST
HEARD THERE WAS NOTHING MORE
DOCTORS COULD DO SCHAEFER TOOK
IT WITH MATURITY AND GRACE.>>THE NEWS THAT NO ONE SHOULD
EVER HEAR, SHE WAS JUST LIKE,
AND LOOKED AT EVERYBODY SH
NEVER CRIED A TEAR. HELENA: AN EXAMPLE THAT EVERY
PERSON HERE CAN LOOK UP TO.>>SHE ALWAYS USED TO SAY NEVER
A VICTIM, ALWAYS A FIGHTER. HELENA: ALTHOUGH SCAEFER’S LIFE
WAS JUST GETTING STARTED HER
LEGACY WILL CONTINUE ON FOR
YEARS TO COME. NOW THIS CELEBRATION TONIGHT WAS
REALLY PACKED WITH SO MANY
DIFFERENT PEOPLE. SCHAEFER’S PARENTS ARE
FIREFIGHTERS. SO THE COVINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT
WAS THERE. AND A LOT OF KIDS SHE GRADUATED
WITH EVEN CAME HOME FROM
COLLEGE, JUST TO ATTEND HER
FUNERAL AND LIFE CELEBRATION. REPORTING LIVE HELENA
